Choosing a bike cover isn't simply a question of wheel size or the name on the frame. The right fit depends on the shape and size of the bike — particularly its handlebars, overall length and anything fitted to it, such as a child seat, long rear rack or cargo box.

The short answer: what size bike cover do I need?

For most standard road, hybrid, city and e-bikes with handlebars up to 63cm, choose a STASH or URBAN.

For mountain bikes, bigger e-bikes and bikes with wider handlebars, choose the XL / MTB, which accommodates handlebars up to 100cm.

Longtail cargo bikes, longtails with child seats, box-style cargo bikes and children's bikes have their own BikeParka fits.

Why bike covers aren't one-size-fits-all

Two bikes with the same wheel size can have very different shapes.

A road bike may have narrow drop handlebars and a relatively slim profile. A mountain bike can have handlebars approaching a metre wide. A longtail stretches much further behind the rider, while a front-loader cargo bike can have a large box between the rider and front wheel.

Accessories matter too. A child seat or high rear rack can completely change the shape the cover needs to accommodate.

A cover that is too small can leave parts of the bike inadequately covered or be difficult to pull into place. An unnecessarily large cover can be looser than needed and more prone to moving in strong wind.

A closer fit is therefore generally better — which is why BikeParka now offers different shapes rather than treating every bicycle as the same size.

Which BikeParka fits each type of bike?

Road, hybrid, city or standard e-bike

If you have a conventional road, hybrid, commuter or city bike with handlebars up to around 63cm wide, start with the STASH. It's BikeParka's standard-fit waterproof cover for everyday bikes.

If you want to pass a lock through the cover itself, choose the URBAN instead. It uses the same standard fit as the STASH but adds built-in lock-through panels.

Mountain bike, wide handlebars or bigger e-bike

Mountain bike bars and the flat handlebars used on many e-bikes can be considerably wider.

For handlebars over 63cm and up to 100cm, larger frames and chunkier e-bikes, check the XL / MTB. The XL / MTB also fits many standard-sized bikes with a rear child seat fitted.

Longtail cargo bike without child seats

Longtails such as the Tern GSD, RadWagon and many Yuba models use an extended rear section and need more length than a standard bicycle cover provides.

The Longtail is designed for longtail cargo bikes without child seats fitted, with recommended bike length up to 210cm and handlebars up to 80cm.

Add one or two child seats and the shape changes considerably at the rear of the bike.

The Longtail WS — WS means "with seats" — gives the extra room needed around seats and taller rear setups.

If your bike is a standard bicycle with a single rear child seat rather than a true longtail, check the XL / MTB instead.

Box or front-loader cargo bike

Front-loader and box bikes are a different shape again.

The Cargo is designed for box-style and long-frame cargo bikes and trikes, including bikes such as the Urban Arrow Family, Bullitt and similar designs. It accommodates bikes up to approximately 276cm long, 130cm high and handlebars up to 120cm wide.

Kids' bike or BMX

Children's bikes and BMX bikes don't need an adult-sized cover.

The Kids / BMX is designed for bikes up to 140cm long with handlebars up to 55cm wide.

A small-framed adult bike may still require a standard STASH or URBAN, so check its dimensions rather than choosing purely by frame size.

Need to transport a muddy bike instead?

How to measure your bike for a cover

If your exact bike isn't listed or you are close to a fit limit, a few simple measurements can help.

Handlebar width: measure from the outside of one handlebar end to the outside of the other at the widest point. This is particularly important for mountain bikes and e-bikes.

Overall length: measure the bike from its furthest point at the front to its furthest point at the rear. Length becomes especially important with longtails and cargo bikes.

Height and accessories: look for anything that changes the normal outline of the bike — child seats, baskets, high racks, cargo boxes or other accessories.

How do I know which bike cover I need?

Start with the shape of the bike, its handlebar width and any accessories fitted to it. Standard road, hybrid, city and e-bikes with handlebars up to about 63cm generally use the STASH or URBAN. What size bike cover do I need for an e-bike?

There isn't one e-bike cover size because e-bikes vary significantly in shape. A conventional e-bike with handlebars up to around 63cm will usually be a STASH or URBAN fit. E-bikes with wider flat bars or bulkier frames should be checked against the XL / MTB. Longtail and front-loader cargo e-bikes should use their respective dedicated cover types.

What BikeParka fits a Tern GSD?

Can I use one bike cover for more than one bike?

Often, provided the bikes are a similar size and shape. For example, one standard-fit BikeParka may work across several road, hybrid or city bikes. If the bikes differ considerably in handlebar width, length or accessories, check each bike individually in Find Your Fit.

What if my bike isn't listed?

Choose its shape in Find Your Fit first. Some bikes fall outside the current BikeParka range — particularly unusual folding-bike shapes or children's bikes beyond the Kids / BMX size limits. If you're unsure, tell us what you ride and we can help check it.
